Big deal, Sen. McCain – so what?

I left the following as a comment at S, N!

Here’s the question America needs to ask John McCain:

“So, what?” John McCain was a POW, so what?

A man from my hometown was a Viet Nam POW. I vaguely remember his homecoming parade, when I was a little kid. I’m not sure if I remember his last name correctly, because I can’t find him on the internets.

My uncle was a POW in WWII. He escaped the Death March of Bataan because he was too sick to walk. He didn’t talk about it. He didn’t Want to talk about it.

My Dad served in the Navy in WWII, South Pacific. He didn’t like to talk about it. He was proud of his service but he didn’t brag. He carried the US flag in our Memorial Day parades but we never flew a flag at our house.

I’ve known a few guys who fought in Viet Nam. They don’t like to talk about it. Hell, they’d walk away if you asked them too many questions.

When John Kerry ran for President, his service was labeled a joke. He earned medals of distinction and courage, and Pat fucking Peale wore a purple heart band aid as the poster child of Bush/Cheney 04.

John McCain got a legacy ride to Anapolis, nearly failed, crashed 4 planes (before the Big One) and ended up a POW. And now – 40 years later! – we’re supposed to bow and scrape? Fuck. That. Noise, my friends!

You’ve been in the states for 40 years, Senator. What the fuck have you done? Gold digger? check! Lackadaisical public servant? check! Lobbyist scandals? check! Big business scandals? check! One man PR firm for the Bush administration’s non-democratic, un-Constitutional policies and programs? motherfucking-check!, Senator…

War hero, my ass! What has he done for us lately?

(Sorry – I’m just so damned tired of hearing this “McCain hero” bullshit… Someone – that’s us – needs to say something. Loudly.)

A search for American POWs shows me there were 725 POWs during the Viet Nam War, with 1,807 MIA (fact check me). John McCain seems to think his service means more – it ‘qualifies’ him to be President of the United States. Even after he cheated on his wife, got a little too friendly with some banking criminals, sponsored an anti-torture bill that he voted against,  suffered through the Bush/Rove campaign of 2000 but decided to plant his dry, skinny lips on Bush’s ass for the last 4 years…

Sen. McCain, if the Chinese were rolling over the hills screaming “I want my two dollars!”, I wouldn’t vote for you. You’re a pathetic, washed up, ego-maniacal, trigger happy, pandering, god damned fake.  And everyone knows it – you, me, the nation’s dogs, the Green Bay Packers and the Pittsburgh Steelers…

More importantly, though, what is wrong with the people in this nation? What is wrong with the “journalists” and the blow-dried, spray-tanned assholes on TV? John McCain is not a hero – he’s a greedy, power-hungry bastard who puts Uriah Heep to shame. He’s George W. Bush, with a bigger chip on his shoulder.

America doesn’t need that. The World doesn’t deserve that.

[Update] - Who’s ‘ambitious’, Sen. McCain?  (hoist a pint for Christina, at YesToDemocracy)

[Update] – John McCain only cares about Daddy’s Girls with millions of dollars.  You other ladies are on your own.   Girls are such silly creatures!

That was one of the best rants I have read in a long time damned time! Excellent job, and I couldn’t agree with you more.

    Thanks!

God I hate that ‘hero’ shit…

Yay! Now that was a rant! I’ve been trying to spread it around, but everyone’s too caught up in the polls and whining about ‘em. Fook McCain, he weren’t no hero! Pussy got caught, didn’t he?

Bravo and well said, sir. And here’s what chaps my ass — McCain actually tells reporters he is reluctant to talk about his war experiences! When he talks of nothing fucking else! And they lap it up. It’s maddening. So fucking what? That’s the correct response.

This is a losing and defensive rant. There is nothing to counter with. You all have turned yourselves into Pat Peale, just from the other direction.

Attacking McCain wrt 30+ years ago loses.

Look to what he is doing today.

You missed the point, Michelle, yet somehow defeated your own point. 40 years ago doesn’t matter – what has he done lately? Nothing good. That’s the point.

The man’s an empty suit, his nose a pants’ depth from George Bush’s ass.

He deserves nothing – least of all the Presidency.

Being shot down and captured makes one a failure, not a hero. And just what is he doing today? Not much of anything including his job. When is the last time he even showed up to work?

I WISH someone would say that to McCain. I always thought being a POW made you LESS able to be commander-in-chief. All the vietnam vets (not just POWs) I know are a little far gone.

Thank God someone is finally saying this! Wonderful rant.

I wish Obama would stop reminding us about McCain’s “service” as well. I think we all get it by now that Barack “honor[s] McCain’s service”. Why does he have to preface every critique of McCain with that little announcement? He’s said it enough times where he can now go at McCain full force without predication. I hope he finally does.

Seems that even McCain’s . The man that wrote that article, Phillip Butler, was held in the same camp as McCain, but for longer, and says that the fact he was captured and tortured for two years (he explains in the article why McCain’s assertion that he was tortured for 5 years is a misrepresentation) doesn’t make him fit to be president of the rotary club, much less President of the United States.

His own comrades in captivity won’t vouch for his “experience”. That says something.

Hmm, well, it seems that my html was stripped.

There’s the link to the article which I was referencing (I hope it works this time).
